Advice on upgrading Storage in MBP

right have 2011 mbp apple 128gb ssd in it, , 500gb wd 5400 rpm hd in optical bay. while working me, i'd rather move ssd my machine. have noticed ever use more 300gb worth of storage, regularly use more 240gb. while money isn't huge concern, buying 480gb vertex 3 bit hard swallow. thoughts are, go 120-128gb boot drive , 240-256gb drive data , vm drive.

first off, happen have 120gb gskill phoenix ssd sitting in box (it's sandforce 1200 based ssd). planning on swapping 128gb apple ssd gskill. old 2009 mbp had sandforce 1200 in , felt bit snappier. thought picking 120gb vertex 3 (or corsair force 3) drive, reviews of 120gb sandforce 2200 drives not showing lot of improvement on 1200 series due half memory channels.

secondly, have recommendations on "cheap" 240-256gb ssd? seems sandforce 1200 series cheapest. newegg has them around $380. surprised lot of slower/older chipset based ssd's weren't cheaper on newegg.

last, new crucial m4's? looks 512mb ones running $850. while aren't fast sandforce 2200 based drives, @ price half tb, think swallow price (as opposed $1700 sandforce 2200 drives). experience on how these drives work or without trim hack? nice put optical drive mbp handful of times use it, isn't requirement.

, be/is appreciated.

i have thought leaving @ least 20% free on boot volume "good" practice if ssd.

when money isn't concern buy wish fork out max gb u can buy. ocz vertex3 , crucial have pretty reputations. little research justify choice you.
