Network Users canot login remotely (Lion)

let me preface saying know quite bit linux/apache/php configs, first time i've ever tried setup client login relationship.

i've setup open directory master, dns , created network user. given user home folder (first path "/volumes/faststore/users", later afp:// share).

on lion client machine bound od server using systempreferences->users&groups->loginoptions, terminal can "ssh {ip address} -l {user name}" , login , nano/create files in home directory, , can "id {user name}" , see correct numbers given od server.

however, on client machines login window, "other" trying login user makes spin while , popup message "can't login, error has occurred"

missing here?

edit: solved!
setting dns point server client resolved it. (imho oddly)

What's the max amount of RAM an iMac can have to run BootCamp & Parallels Windows 7?
