New iMac 2011

hello, purchased (last week) 21" imac - core i5 2.7.

first mac computer, felt had in on hype!
(plus time upgrade - last computer pentium 4)

far i'm pretty happy, have set boot camp , far enjoying experience.

few things i've noticed little irritating are:

1. when usb external drive (it wd passport 750gb) connected, seems slow whole system down. happens in both windows , osx. switching windows, running applications, etc. unplug usb drive, performance increases dramatically.

2. thing i've noticed choppy audio. happens in audio clips , video. goes away. weird. know apple , adobe don't play nice, hardware, should not happen.

suggestions.

 

suggestions on drive issue...

drive may have problems, use disk utility repair it.
maybe spotlight indexing it, i'd surprised if discern performance impact spotlight
open activity monitor , see if can identify difference in activity when drive plugged in

question on audio issue...
how adobe fit issue?

finally, these things should not happening. if me, i'd calling apple support. experiences them have been good.
