Why is my private folder enormous after one week with MacBook Air?

all of sudden, ssd drive 30gbs.

13g of in file called "private"

in private folder , can reducing it?

i've put nothing in ssd, have been trying mail started without downloading 15 thousand gmail messages, have been unsuccessful at.
 

do not mess private folder. contains critical parts of operating system.

What's the max amount of RAM an iMac can have to run BootCamp & Parallels Windows 7?
