Boot = Blank gray screen to black with blinking cursor...

so think may have borked thing. it's core solo mini had set dual boot os x snow leopard , windows 7. worked great until did hard shutdown after win 7 froze.

can watch boot blank gray screen, , switch black screen blinking underscore cursor. won't respond keyboard combos while booting (can't hold [opt] select boot device, can't hold [cmd]+[v] verbose booting, or other key combo documented).

more or less screwed? there else can try before go apple store told cost repair 3x market rate replacement on ebay? bad ram or fried cpu?
 

are technically experienced? replace hdd (about $30 250gig usually). try booting off external drive.
