Mom's birthday coming up, is the iPad 2 the right gift for her?

hi all,

mom's birthday coming in couple months, , have begun looking getting ipad 2. need few suggestions guys whether think ipad 2 right product her.

uses old windows toshiba laptop (really heavy; hates lugging around) of these things:
1. browse internet; reading blogs, news, etc
2. watch videos on youtube
3. watch downloadable/home movies, or @ pictures, etc.

wondering if ipad 2 product her?

also, should wait back-to-school her, i.e. there "deals" or discounts can take advantage of in next 3 months or so? alternatively should wait ipad 3 or there marginal gains purposes?

i rather buy macbook pro replace current laptop.

What's the max amount of RAM an iMac can have to run BootCamp & Parallels Windows 7?
