Haunted Keyboard Issue -- Help!

so thought keyboard acting up, maybe control or option key had permanently depressed... lo, tried girlfriend's keyboard , didn't work either (but works on computer). here's what's going on:

behaving strangely in pro tools rebooted , when try log os, "return" key enters character in password field if "letter key" instead of command key... iow... doesn't enter password or "log in." tried typing password , clicking log in button , doesn't work either. (i 100% know password).

did accidentally switch foreign language or foreign keyboard configuration inadvertent key combination? can't log in test in text edit.

edit: okay... logged guest account (no password) , opened text edit , fine. so... logged out , tried logging regular account , return key worked. can hazard guess happened?
