[help] macbook pro doesn't play dolby digital

hey friends,
have 2010 mbp base model running lion.i have purchased tritton ax pro 5.1 surround sound headset , intend use mbp watching movies.
have bought mini jack required connect optical output of triton mbp , connects nicely.but whenever play movie still plays in stereo format.i have tried in vlc quicktime cannot find solution.
have changed settings in output digital output requires,but @ moment getting stereo sound.please me surround sound.cheers

sure movies watching have 5.1 channel selected in dvd setup menu? running 2 channel instead.

5.1 audio out with hdmi? MBP 15inch 2011

i've gone through 2 adapters , endless hours of trying 5.1 audio receiver via hdmi or optical , can't seem work. well, let me correct myself. got work in osx whenever start vlc audio goes 7.1 random configuration comes out of side speaker. can't seem dts or ac3 consistently output vlc receiver. if have use optical don't care want work. got normal audio not dts or ac3 work osx. using bootcamp , windows 7 got vlc output ac3 via optical receiver. never got hdmi sound output in other 2 channel in windows. anyway if can spread light on how accomplish appreciated @ moment using http://www.kanexlive.com/v2 claim pass uncompressed 5.1/7.1 dts , ac3 through. entire thing frustrating. technical support laughable.   bump   Forums Macs Notebooks ...
