2009 13" MBP and the mini display port to hdmi?

ok, bought rocket fish mini display port hdmi cable hook brand new lg lcd television. use tv travel lot work , bring me thought if had cable connect laptop tv, watch hbo while logged in att uverse account.

connected cable , television displaying entirely different wallpaper, solar system wallpaper built lion. had grass wallpaper ground.

went either go safari screen went fuzzy. quit safari , solar system wallpaper back.

doing wrong or not doing?
 

is external display set "mirror display" in system preferences > displays >> arrangement?

What's the max amount of RAM an iMac can have to run BootCamp & Parallels Windows 7?
