iPhone 4 headphones - on PC with windows 7

today tried iphone 4 headphones pc. pc has 2 ports, 1 mic , heaphones , 1 headphones. when insert headphones headphones port (it not fit way in of course) - recognizes headphones, alas 1 side works. when insert mic+headphones jack recognizes mic, not recognize headphones , sound keeps coming speakers.

had similar issues? hardware problem on pc, or windows problem or problem headphones? headphones work fine phone though...

the mic + headphones connector microphone connector. lots of pcs have 1 connector sound output , 1 separate 1 mic. many pc headsets work having 2 connectors on end of cord, 1 plug goes headphone socket on pc, other connector mic socket. iphone headphone connector has merged them, why see 3 white rings on connector instead of 2 (for headphones) or 1 (for microphones).
