MBP Optical sound out not working! Please help!

hi, purchased feb 2011 13 inch mbp. bought optical wire, , toshlink cable. want sound out mbp, onkyo tx-sr804 amplifier connects music system.

play 5 channel sound out video (a dvd) mac, , then:

1. connect toslink - result: red light comes out of it
2. connect optical wire toslink - result: red light comes out of other end of wire
3. connect optical wire amp - result: no sound!

either amp doesnt work (unlikely) or setting wrong mac.

appears on mac:

1. screenshot 1 looks @ audio options preferences
2. screenshot 2 looks @ audio midi options (and how still appears 2 channel out)
3. screenshot 3 looks @ me clicking on configure option
4. screenshot 4 looks @ me clicking on stereo dropdown box screenshot 3 , how grey in there! why?

please help. (also tell me need buy more things optical out mac? or work people or something?)

What's the max amount of RAM an iMac can have to run BootCamp & Parallels Windows 7?
