Looking to buy my first Mac, need advice

i have been using computers whole life, taught self how build them. after being windows user, i'm looking different pace. i'm looking smaller laptop, have large gaming rig satisfies needs.

i'm looking @ 13" macbook air , 13" macbook pro.

have done lot of research , still cannot make decision. used writing papers college, , carrying around @ home, browsing internet, email, sort of stuff. maybe games (i have ton on steam).

stuck because on 1 hand macbook pro cheaper, , more powerful. on other hand macbook air updated (everyone says wait on pro, can't wait till 2012), has ssd, , supposedly better screen.

went bestbuy , didn't help. i'm looking guys advice.

if portability main decision factor next mac, latest air models powerful in comparison previous models.
if want run games on it, macbook pro might better choice, if have pc machine gaming doesn't make sense.
maybe ipad bluetooth keyboard might fit needs, , less money.
i'll if want more versatile , powerful portable mac macbook pro, if want not intensive air or ipad enough.
remember can connect of them bigger screen monitor or tv.

RESOLVED: Geez...my spoiled daughter was disappointed when I gave her a new 11" MBA!

my daughter has 2010 white macbook (latest model...as of today) has warranty expiring soon. so, instead of buying applecare, thought i'd great dad , surprise new 11" base model macbook air (and sell macbook). give yesterday thinking she'd (since said thought cool @ local apple store last week), after 15 seconds, says doesn't want because there's no disc drive in music , dvds. told can rip , put file on mba or whatever, still said needs (despite other benefits of newer , lighter mba). use, 2011 mbp better mba, i'm not listening voice of customer/user in case! geez...she's seven! smart , detailed , knows wants, see myself taking son on weekend getaways every month starting in few years or   /r/firstworldproblems   Forums Macs ...
