Audio Problem with HDMI connection

i have imac, mid-2010, 3.6/i5 processor running latest snow leopard. purchased samsung hdtv , onkyo receiver. connected mini display port in mac via adaptor , hdmi cable hdmi input on receiver. picture perfect, sound drops out couple of seconds, 2-3 times minute, receiver seeming indicate not receiving sound during dropouts. has else heard of this, , if so, know how may able fix this. matter of tweaking of settings on either mac or receiver? other hdmi inputs receiver (cable, game systems, etc) having no sound issues, 1 mac.
 

is on 10.6.8?

people reporting 10.6.8 has audio problems. (i don't have problem).

What's the max amount of RAM an iMac can have to run BootCamp & Parallels Windows 7?
