iMessage - what happens when you are roaming?

my wife , leave "data roaming off" when travel outside of country. use cheap text messaging communicate, roaming data charges on our home carrier outrageous.

if (or wife) overseas, no longer able text me through message app? imessage default data sending when there no data connection available, if have used imessage same user in past?
 

incoming sms should work anywhere, or without imessage switched on.

imessage has feature turn off when there isn't network connection, if wife sent message using imessage , phone had no data connection don't think delivered. imo huge problem.

What's the max amount of RAM an iMac can have to run BootCamp & Parallels Windows 7?
