iPad or a second macbook?

i'm planning on buying macbook pro @ end of summer. i'll have 1 year of law school left, , after done husband starting online courses masters- we'll need decent. right sharing white macbook. great little laptop (has out lasted 2 of hubby's pc's in 3 years) i'm thinking of selling , putting money towards ipad. i'm figuring if getting off of 1 computer , our iphones, may fine macbook , ipad vs 2 macbooks.

i'm looking insight- more practical have 2 macbooks? of have ipad , macbook find using more (for personal reasons, not including work related uses)? feel use phone more macbook begin unless i'm doing school work... more accessible.
 

my spouse , share ipad both have macbook pro.

1 computer , 1 ipad enough though. use ipad browsing, facebook, twitter, mail etc etc. when need serious work (editing etc) use mac.

downside of ipad that's ipad not wepad. u install twitter/facebook/insert-name-here--app , 1 account in there..so 1 has use browser whilst other can use apps..

What's the max amount of RAM an iMac can have to run BootCamp & Parallels Windows 7?
