i have decided going order 'higher end' base imac i5 3.1ghz, 4gb ram, 1gb graphics, 1tb hard drive. have learned how install additional ram myself (so easy) , have decided going go crucial memory (very quality , value)
http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/lis...uad-core i5 (27-inch - ddr3) mid 2011&cat=ram
stuck, imac has 4 ram slots, want use 4 take advantage of dual chanelling. im not sure if want add 8gb of ram or 4gb ram, if install 8gb (4gb x 2 ram sticks) have total of 12gb ram in imac, seems abit considering close programs not using, , ram sit there being waste of space, future proofed imac down line (unless upgrade ram slots in future imacs 240 pins , faster 1333)
if order 4gb ram (i understand ram more memory on 1 chip better, because of dual chanelling 2gb x 2 ram chips) have total of 8gb in imac, sounds , not wasted, have 4 x 2gb chips , if needed upgrade more ram wasted.
using logic pro, gaming, internet browsing, hd video editing, downloading, converting, photoshop.
defiantly not power user, , close applications not using, beastly power of imac more enough handle simple video conversion whilst logic pro open, while im downloading , browsing web, thats quad core processing right. things total maybe not 6gb of ram. osx great @ multitasking, , looking ways give os best maintenance keep @ best.
im not sure, buy less realistic @ risk of having little , have wasted money if ever need upgrade, or buy more have wasted there not being used, future proofed. have enough cash buy 8 more gb of ram.
having more ram wont slow down computer or programs it?
i in same boat , ordered 8 additional gb of ram. simple reason being 8gb gskill ram $30 more 4gb. , means never have buy ram again imac. having more ram not slow down system. make sure right ram.
