3 Beeps when booting from external USB HD

i got 3 beeps @ startup when tried clean install of sl on 2011 15" mbp external usb drive snow leopard imaged on volumn. thought 3 beeps mean wrong ram can boot fine normally.

idea on how solve problem? thanks.
 

3 beeps? hard drive self powered or plugged in? don't know why i'm asking seem remember problem earlier thread...

What's the max amount of RAM an iMac can have to run BootCamp & Parallels Windows 7?
