external Hard Drive "crashed"; still use it or demand replacement from LaCie?

not sure if i'm using right terminology, since maybe wasn't "crash", here's happened.

got lacie rikiki go 1 tb external usb drive little on month ago. until yesterday. yesterday morning fine. ejected finder , unplugged it, , went school.
when got home plugged macbook pro... , met wonderful message:
so tried other usb port... no luck.
tried different cable... no luck
tried different macbook pro (my girlfriend's)... no luck.

in disk utility, "hardware" line visible, "1 tb toshiba mk1059gsm media", there no lines under partitions. erased drive , zero'd out (i figure should adequate test of writing errors, right?)

should repartition , go using drive backups?

or should contact lacie , ask them replace because don't trust keep data safe.

i'm hoping else out there better understanding of spontaneous hard drive failures explain kind of event cause failure happen... drive never exposed shock or trauma or em radiation or magnets or anything.... lives sedentary life sitting on desk @ home.

for come's upon thread in future, here's correct advice.

don't trust drive.

"crashed" again 3 days later (this afternoon). can't read anymore, , has initialized. it's going lacie
