weird upgrade- possibility or dum idea?

scenario: want buy 2011 macbook pro , want replace stock hdd after market ssd because heard toshiba ssd’s apple offers upgrade mediocre ( want around 200 gb write speed of 500mb/s)... however, don’t want void warranty , crack open macbook. questions are:

1) can external ssd , load snow leopard , else on , run/boot laptop while ignoring internal hard drive?

2) slow down speed of (opening/running programs/apps, downloading , uploading speeds) if connect external ssd through firewire or thunderbolt port? think ports have speeds on 500 mb/s idk if there overall difference in lag between external ports , motherboard compared lag between internal sata/pci-e port , motherboard.

3) came across pci-e ssd… pci-e port ssd/hhd can connect or card slot? don’t know how guts work lol

4) final question…is equally important have lot if ram though ill have ssd? (i doing lot of video editing iwas told upgrade ram adnd video card)

i’m not of electronics wiz , might not know im talking about, im reading forums , trying bang buck if have links products or suggestions i’m ears…

1. theoretically yes.
2. nothing beats direct sata speeds.
3. pci-e interface mbp doesn't have.
4. no.

, finally, doesn't void warranty replace internal hdd ssd. no matter apple or best buy or other retailer tell you, not void warranty. in fact, in user manual mbp, includes directions on how swap out hdd , ram.
