iMovie 11 and Parallels 6 issues with Lion and user's folder on a remote NFS share

hi there. i'm having couple of issues current setup @ home, using shared nfs resource user's folder, , wondering if maybe 1 of found similar issues.

i'm going explain firstly how structured current setup, , i'll point issues i'm having.

setup

have ubuntu server 6x2tb wd disks using software raid-6, reliability. raid stores important data. , wanted access data imac.

@ beginning using netatalk, linux daemon capable of sharing files through afp protocol, , shared folders through it. giving me lot of issues when copying / renaming files. have removed it. filesystem full of annoying .appledouble directories resource forks mac files stored (because ext4 can't store extended attributes , metadata of files, netatalk uses hidden directory keep them), , didn't need metadata, removed them too.

switched reliable nfs server. after configure daemon server @ ubuntu, started make changes imac, runs os x lion. idea keep entire user directory (which commonly stored @ /users/myusername) @ nas, i've used in past other unix systems. after reading notes autofs, edited /etc/auto_home file, , added following entry:

myusername 10.0.1.2:/export/myusername

after forcing automount reload configuration files, able access remote directory under /home/myusername. created second local administrator account in case have problems login, can try repair using new account, , moved user files /user/myusername /home/myusername.

setup seems work in general. after login again regular user, when working local directory. performance great, because raid can obtain transfer rates, , gigabit ethernet fast enough not being bottleneck accesses disk. seemed allright... until opened imovie.

issues

first issue have imovie 11 unusable. when event files @ movies folder on user directory, doesn't detect them. tried move mov files different folder, remove imovie preferences , folders, , try import them again. complains error -43, saying couldn't copy or move files during import. of course, files totally accessible. suspect trying copy files on local disk, because imovie doesn't ask place files, let select disk files stored (and here can see local disk, of course). can't work imovie @ all, , seems new final cut works in same way. isn't possible tell imovie store files @ /home/myusername/movies/imovie events, expect? aperture, iphoto , other apple software can store libraries wherever. silly have create afp or iscsi resource imovie, can use external disk put files in way wants (btw, don't trust ubuntu afp server anymore, , free globalsan iscsi initiator doesn't work lion... yet; apple, windows have own iscsi initiator... common).

second issue parallels desktop 6. couldn't open of virtual machines files stored @ user's directory (the nfs share). complains file permissions, able manipulate files , contents of directory without problem. moved virtual machines /users/shared/parallels, @ imac's local disk, worked again. partially ok (at least can use parallels), it's not ideal, because prefer preserve work files @ raid. i'm going configure afp or iscsi share timemachine in near future, , virtual machines doesn't change much, might work fine, wondering if of have better solution.

thanks!
