Non-Apple external SuperDrive?

would non-apple external superdrive work mba? if so, use usb port? , ones recommend? i'm looking save money. if apple's reliable, or if there other little things should make me choose instead of 3rd party ones, i'll bite bullet. in advance!

cd-rom drives same. usb drive work air. have old (5 years) phillips cd drive hooked 2010 imac , works fine.
