a few reasons-

apple makes money off hardware, not software. can gain good-will low prices.

gets people using mac app store, if carry on apple gets 30% cut.

cheaper distribution no packaging etc

What's the max amount of RAM an iMac can have to run BootCamp & Parallels Windows 7?
