How do I repair disc on Snow Leopard?

i used have tiger , whenever scan/repair disc via disc utility, put in install disc, , press c on keyboard, lead me installation mode can access disc utility repair disc option.

have new imac snow leopard. followed same procedure before computer isn't starting in install mode. it's starting would.

did change snow leopard? how can access repair disc?
