Rough yet real world experiences? SMB vs NFS network speed?

hi

upgraded wireless network 'n' 5ghz , getting decent speed ntfs windows share speed not great i'd hoped.

large file transfers i'm getting 7mb/s max works out ~56mb/s on 300mb/s clean connection.

realize there overhead , practical never meets theoretical etc primary question speed increase server if got nas hosts via nfs instead of windows desktop via smb. i've struggled crap windows file share performance linux years never proved protocol problem thinking of dropping several hundred on nas see if nfs sharing if better looking feedback.
