Win7 NTFS Partition Icon Help Please? Need help BADLY!

so i'm new @ macrumors, , joined 1 reason: no matter what, cannot icon on mac os x windows 7 change standard hard drive icon. have read , followed every thread, post , article can find. have gotten me close , taught me little i'm going have do. have been utterly useless. however, 1 particular set of instructions has caught eye. goes this:

replacing xp partition's icon

if use ntfs file system, not able modify xp partition's icon "get info" procedure. follow instructions see how can change xp partition's icon
1.- format usb stick fat file system (you can use volume really, needs fat).
2.- in mac os x, set custom volume icon using finder's "more info" window or tool of choice.
3.- open terminal window, enter
cd /volumes
ls -la
you'll see file listed has same name fat volume, "._" prepended. example, "._usbstick".
4.-copy file equivalent name windows xp ntfs partition typing in terminal
cp ._usbstick ._winxp
5.- transfer ".volumeicon.icns" file created on fat file system root of ntfs partition, using windows.
6.- open command prompt , enter in "attrib +h +s .volumeicon.icns" root of ntfs partition. make file hidden, system file, hides curious passers , if have show hidden , systems files not show in ntfs partition.

congratulations! xp partition has new icon.

i've seen has worked , people happily praising method still have 1 problem it... steps 3-6. actually, bunch of questions. saying, screenshots very, helpful, , if can find or can make video showing step-by-step clearly, you'd massive me, loads of other people , countless people encounter problem in future. so, actual questions. supposed happen in terminal in step 3 , 4? reactions program give each line entered? , in step 5, biggest question, heck saying? can word better? like, better? in root of ntfs partition? mean "root?" isn't c:>users>*username*? tried dropping there didn't work i'm assuming not right spot. root? , after making custom icon icon usb drive, how it? supposed have show hidden files? , in command prompt, supposed type , enter? should command prompts reactions? how supposed affect how drive shown on mac os x partition? clearly, confused , need badly. can smart, experienced mac user me out here? grateful.

in advance!

easier tuxera ntfs

hi skyfly

i'm not sure if able solve this, after having tried several methods, including 1 mentioned, 1 worked me, , easiest, temporarily install trial version of tuxera ntfs mac , allow read , write ntfs partition. once enabled, can apply traditional os x icon changing method (copy icon wish use windows partition, select partition in desktop, cmd + open 'get info' window, select icon on upper left corner , apply cmd + v).
once you've changed icon, can uninstall app tuxera ntfs pane in system preferences.

hope helps, worked beautifully in lion.

late 2008 macbook (aluminum unibody), 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo, 8 gb ram, os x lion 10.7.2
