Can't see iMac hard disc on OS install

four year old imac 250gb drive. had 250 taken out , wiped clean , 1tb put in. noisy, had 250 put back. tried installing snow leopard. nothing. must upgrade disc. tried installing leopard. started, got 'select drive' - nothing. drive not show. nothing. help. please.

you have run disk utility install disk in situations such installing new hdd may not partitioned or may dos formatted. seem remember during install, if click on "file" should find disk utility.

should @ least see internal drive in disk utility. can start disk utility install dvd leopard or snow leopard. click on internal disk , see if has partitions. if not, pick partition scheme 1 partition, make sure options "guid" , click apply. if like, can rename new partition "untitled" "macintosh hd" "erasing" formats again , renames it. when exit disk utility , go install (no need reboot), should see internal hdd , can pick install.
