Should I use USB installer for non-clean install?

i created usb boot drive clean install imac lion. worked great. i'm going install lion on mba don't plan on clean installing. should re-download app store , install way or should use usb drive install lion without clean install?

i'd imagine can use usb key wanted make sure first. assuming use usb drive should boot off or run installer drive?
 

if can work off usb drive, save download time. that's benefit can see doing way - if works of course.
