FPS external monitor

hi there, wondering if playing games in clamshell mode on external monitor drastically reduce fps?
mean, if 60fps on mbp, 60fps on monitor well?

basic 15" model in clamshell + 23" display running 1920x1080
 

since graphics card pushing out bigger image 60% more pixels, impossible same graphics card same power maintain same fps, doesn't add up.

i'm guessing you'd lose @ least 15 fps, if not more.


can use bigger screen, , lower resolution/change detail settings alleviate this.
