Conversion question

this first macbook (pro 13.3) , first attempt @ imovie. have panasonic hd video camera can record onto internal storage or have sd card records onto. when sync camera mac , open in imovie, works great. trying move original video camera western digital external hard drive. hook both devices , start copy , past transfer. moves files over, when go open files wont open. doing wrong? matter of changing on formats? if can me out great. thanks!!
 

imovie needs see whole cards worth of files, not individual mts files. in imovie can select option create archive card. this. can open archive in imovie.

alternatively can buy conversion software convert individual mts files quicktime aic files imovie use. clip wrap or nice shedworx people.
