15" MBP or iMac?

here's situation , input great.

have late 2006 model (purchased march 2007) white 2 ghz c2d macbook w/ 1gb ram, 500 gb 7200rpm hd, super drive, etc. i've graduated college , have full time job.

i'm still debating whether should buy new machine or not. can financially? yes. smart buy new machine now? maybe, maybe not. job pays bills, pay student loans, , allow me save decent amount in savings, not rain making money here.

if bought new machine, must able game @ least medium quality of games today + bit future. i'm not talking super fps or crysis 2 standard games. i'm talking portal 2, diablo 3 (2012?), new graphics engine mmo play (if vaporware ever gets released), random things on steam, etc.

treat laptop desktop practically, never considered imac ever before. i'm @ desk, never took class (yay no more classes), i'll never take work, @ lounge on bed instead of sofa viewing things, maybe. however, imacs considerably cheaper 15" detailed mbp. i'd tweak imacs bit due pain of breaking one. here's options:

- 21.5" 2.5 ghz icore 5 quad core, upgrade 8 gb ram, radeon hd 6750m w/512mb ddr5 $1,329
- 21.5" imac bto 2.8 ghz icore 7 quad core, 8 gb ram, radeon hd 6770m w/512 mb ddr5 $1,759 (i guess stick stock 2.7 ghz i5 upgrade ram $1,579 too)
- 15" mbp 2.2 ghz icore 7 quad core, 4 gb ram (cheaper upgrade elsewhere), 500 gb 7200rpm, radeon hd 6750m w/ 1gb ddr5, hi-res glossy display $2,089

guess i've never considered imac before because in college in chicago , home michigan. now, can bring current/old macbook whenever need portable , possibly desktop instead of new laptop. also, imac can as $800 cheaper same graphics power.

it's annoying mbp has more ddr5 ram radeon 6750m 21.5" imac. make dreams 27" radeon hd 6970m in 21.5" imac, macs aren't amazingly customizable, sadly.

go pc route, combination of build quality , portability (if laptop route) hard match in terms of apple machine. input great.

 

about month ago trying decide between , imac , 15' mbp well. had macbook wanted upgrade , since i've been using notebooks main computers last 4 years automatically leaned toward mbp. when thought it, made more sense imac. i'm still in school barely ever brought macbook class still take notes pen , paper. screen size of 13' getting me knew wanted bigger screen (which why wanted @ least 15' mbp). when took account save getting imac realized made lot more sense go it.

love imac , though went 21.5', screen seems soo large me coming using such small screens. don't think go notebook main computer. gave macbook sister , time miss on rare occasion surf on couch or bed it's not enough make me notebook, though airs wicked. i'm thinking of getting ipad couch surfing know don't need , fine imac.
