SSD Write Limits? A Concern?

my 2006 mbp bit dust i'm looking new imac. i've been wanting ssd workflow includes using:

  • photoshop
  • coda
  • transmit
  • tower
  • chrome/safari/firefox
  • things
  • occasional itunes listening
  • dropbox

sounds ssds are, in theory, more reliable. i've heard lot write limits , had concerns. computer wife , , want ensure lasts @ least 4-5 (hopefully more) years. being said, should concerned it? real life scenario go on write limit on apple ssds?

apple's ssds use 34nm nands, have 5000 p/e cycles. if capacity 128gb, can theoretically write 640 000gb, or 640tb of data before nand wears out. 5 years has 1 826 days (since there @ least 1 leap year) means have write 351gb drive, everyday. overwriting whole drive 2.7 times, everyday.

of course, theoretical approach. in real world, of nands filled data won't deleted (such system files). of writes concentrated on few nands. then, it's highly unlikely able wear out ssd before nands lose charge after 10 years.

this article job explaining this.
