Mac Pro 2009 Dual Socket processor upgrade (2 CPUs to 1 CPU)

the thread title may sound strange, here comes explanation , question regarding need help.

purchased 2.26 8-core dp mac pro 2009, came brand new. plan exchange cpus , higher perfomance, due substantially high price of dual qpi-link cpus cannot afford more one. picked 6-core 3.33 ghz westmere cpu (x5680) (along other tools needed because of increased height of new setup) , wanted use in single configuration leaving cpu socket b empty , doing upgrade x5680 later in future.

has been clear me dual socket boards should boot fine single cpu, did quick test: removed stock cpu socket b, , left other 1 (2.26) intact. after carrying out removal mac pro booted fine, after desktop appeared, fans started spin max speed, causing me quite of disappointment.

reinstalled cpu b , realized if screws of heatsink not tightened completely, cpu not recognized , same phenomenon happens before: machine boots 1 cpu running , fans spinning after while. happens either because female connector of heatsink not plugged in or because row of power regulators not touched slip of thermal pad @ bottom of heatsink.

me in finding workaround problem work single cpu prolonged period? don't know if idea reinstall heatsink on empty socket b avoid such spinning of fans, think it? also, 1 might software-based fan control (like smcfancontrol) solve problem, firstly, unclear me whether socket shut down , safe leave power regulators near empty socket naked without cooling , second, software not complete solution anyway (the whoosh reemerge time make reinstall of mac os, example, , neither know if discarded when running windows in bootcamp, occasionally).

any change of cpu needs thermal recalibration.
