Pro's Vs. Con's on Partitioned HDD?

hello all!

question experience working partitions.

idea partition on main hdd built macbook pro. reason want preserve speed , responsiveness macos x.

thought partitioning main hdd in macbook pro have section on devoted macos x operating system only. dilemma don't know if makes sense , how big size recommended partition macos. thought allocating 20gb realized final cut pro , adobe cs collection takes massive amount of space in applications support folder. or under user somewhere on other half of partition not shared macos?

can see i'm bit confused, if have pro idea how or if silly thing do, please let me know. if have experienced method keep os responsive please share... macos x have become sluggish , slow. have 100gb left on 500gb drive , can't figure out why it's darn slow. slows down. if surf online many windows open kills mac.

best method keep macos x running fast , secure?

i don't think new partition whole lot, although reinstall might. sound though may in need of more ram, mentioned slows down when have lot of stuff open.
