Simple question on SSDs / iMac recall!

my 2011 imac 1 of models impacted recent hd recall (seagate drives), , plan take authorized service provider next week.

yesterday passed tell them that, in order know how long take , on...i took opportunity ask them possibility install internal ssd (since opening computer anyway).

questions are:

- worth performance-wise? here in switzerland, 128gb drive cost me around 300 dollars - option seems kingston;

- cause temperature/sensor problems, being third-party ssd?

- kingston best option around? trim or sata iii support in lion?

quick advice..!

- worth performance-wise? here in switzerland, 128gb drive cost me around 300 dollars - option seems kingston;

i’ve been using machines ssd last couple of years, speed day day use of system. i’d highly recommend ssd computer. added ssd atom netbook (didn’t improve speed much:eek:).

- cause temperature/sensor problems, being third-party ssd?

crucial c300 ssd cause hard drive fan spin @ 1500rpm, not problem me still quite.
3rd party ssd cause fan spin @ maximum , 3rd party ssd have no problems fan. there no way know if kingston ssd cause hd fan problem.

there software called hdd fan control allows manual hard drive fan adjustment. tried demo , works, not report temperature of ssd , £20 did not buy it.

- kingston best option around? trim or sata iii support in lion?

last machine had kingston ssdnow v 128gb; it’s not fastest great value performance.

trim support available apple ssd in lion; it’s not enabled 3rd party ssd. there program in mac pro forum enable trim 3rd party ssd.

kingston ssdnow ssd has robust garbage collector slow down degradation of disk on time. in fact ssd in 2010 mba have similar controller solve same problem of lack of trim.

performance of old kingston ssd still after 2 years of use.

sata iii enabled if ssd support it.
