currently running 24" imac 6gb ram ssd boot/apps drive aperture library / project files on fw800 external.
goal maximize aperture 3 performance, sluggish least on current rig huge raw files.
things require:
-ssd boot / apps drive capability. optimally liek lift existing ssd out of imac , put in whichever machine end with. don't want have reinstall everything, made fresh install on ssd when installed few months ago.
-fast aperture library / project files drive. feel fw800 may limiting me, either put them on internal 2tb drive backed external time machine
new imacs 256 ssd , 2tb internal hdd sounds great, can not afford , have no desire "thunderbolt" vaporware
mac pros top notch of course, feel not need raw processing power offer aperture 3 editing. bit more can afford once said , done. can add ssd 2011 imac (pre-thunderbolt revision) , have large 2tb internal hdd? iirc, can accomplish removing disc drive somehow?
also, how go swapping ssd existing boot drive in imac? simple as: remove drive, plug drive in, turn on, , bam there old computer booting up?
wait ivy bridge imacs come out usb 3 in case. if feel firewire 800 slow , thunderbolt vaporware can't afford mac pro, don't see of alternative.
thunderbolt fantastic when there devices available make use of connection.

i'm thinking of upgrading 2011 27" imac's ram stock 4gb 12gb. plan on installing , running windows 7 home premium (64-bit) through boot camp , parallels. what's max amount of ram can have installed in case? windows 7 recognize 12gb installed without problem? as long install 64-bit version of windows, can utilize of ram. 2011 imac can take 32gb (4x8gb) though 12gb should plenty.
