G5 iMac with persistent startup problems

my father has been having troubles aging imac time, starting freezes , kernel panics , culminating in loss of 2 hard drives. here description of problem:


"my imac g5 (powerpc w/isight) running leopard 10.5.8 giving me nightmares. after jet-level fan noises, freezes, involuntary shutdowns 6 months ago, got new hard drive 6 months ago. problems started again month or ago, added issue of '? folder' @ startup. authorized apple dealer/repair shop said hardware checked out fine , failed hard drive. got new hard drive, did clean leopard install, upgraded 10.5.8 (no other software installed), , began having problems immediately. again, '? folder' @ startup, startup completing ok afterward, not, getting orange flash on screen after initial gray. disk first aid says hd ok, apple hardware test no problems. i'm @ wit's end. have idea might going on? thanks."

What's the max amount of RAM an iMac can have to run BootCamp & Parallels Windows 7?
