Why like that (Activity Monitor question)

upon advise of people here, i've upgraded ram 8gb want faster processing when doing photoshop. when close images in photoshop remain on standby mode (ie white dot on). still consume 2.24g memory. astonishing!

although still can work on without experiencing noticeable lack, wonder why take memory when cleared images. when quit photoshop , open again, 3.5gb free compare 289 mb free.

curious why that.
