2011 MBP and 2010 27" iMac as External Display?

been doing reading haven't quite found specific situation.

understand new 2011 imac's thunderbolt not go display mode unless source thunderbolt, aka 2011 mbp.

on other hand, have 2010 27" imac out performed new 2011 mbp i'd use 27" imac display now. thunderbolt out mdp in work?
 

does work. hell of expensive monitor. sold imac reason , got screen.
