Problem with my TC - Channel? 802.11n? iStumbler?

hey macrumors community!

girlfriend moved apartment recently. i'm happy though had rebuild , relocate ;)

beloved tc moved top of 1 of cupboards bottom drawer of nightstand. possible, wooden nightstand tremendously reduces signal of tc?!

can't believe , try figure out other ways stabilize signal.

here 3 questions regarding time capsule:

- best way configure it? should let auto-pick channel or recommend pick 1 manually? chose 48 / 13 (europe) -according istumbler- no 1 else in house uses these channels.

- 802.11a/n or b/g/n? use mac products: ipad, iphone, mac mini. recommendations?

- istumber shows tc twice in list of wireless networks. why? have one. shows same network, witrh both 802.11n, same name, different signal. (is related channel problem above?)

other apartments have wireless. why mac user using istumbler can find safe "wireless channel" no 1 else using around them.
