Optical Drive (ATA Port) not Recognized after Second Hard Drive Upgrade

hi all,

i'm new forum , have 1 quick problem. got macbook 4,1 second hard upgrade , use live performance. want remove optical drive , replace stock hdd , ssd in hard drive slot. yesterday did swap , seemed going okay. on installing osx ssd, noticed hdd (in optical bay), not being recognized.

today took machine apart again , reinstalled optical drive. drive not seem recognized (it shows "this computer doesn't contain ata devices etc" in system profiler), being powered hear move. inserted cd nothing happened. never tested optical drive before upgrade had no use perhaps dodgey begin with. (note did show in system profiler).

sata/ata caddy used

question is, think perhaps ata cable needs replacement? such as

or worse connection in motherboard on brink? assume caddy works have no way of testing. don't have apple care etc. bought second hand , doing myself. careful in disassemble not think did damage (to board/cable).

advice appreciated. thanks.
