Preventing iPad from talking to Apple?

i know i'm wearing tin-foil hat here, wondering if there's fix out there.

ipad awesome except 2 things :

1 - ping apple.com check internet connectivity. don't care if i'm behind captive portal or not, don't want ping apple every time goes online.

2 - once it's online, maintain connection *.push.apple.com if signed out, push notification & find ipad feature disabled.

have put under airplane mode when not in use. it's kind of hassle.

there way fix these "features" out there? wouldn't mind jailbreaking if that's needed. don't want talk mothership unless absolutely necessary.
