Update iPhone 3G from 4.0 to 4.3.x

my sister using unlocked iphone 3g on ios 4.0, jailbroken via redsn0w. did jailbreak/unlock myself, found difficult @ time find information on steps take, , having more trouble figuring out how upgrade @ least 4.2 , preferably 4.3.x in order improve performance. can give me step-by-step guide? please don't google it, because i've tried , have hard time understanding things iphone dev team, etc, , being able find specifics on model phone. don't want risk losing ability unlock phone in process, because it's dead weight her.
