214.5% cpu....wtf is this!?!?!?

so, i'm removing files off of external hard drive (the 1 use time machine backups) , going fine.

out of blue, hear fans start jet taking off of flight line. nothing intensive has been running recently, decided investigate.

opened activity monitor and...holy christ!!! random process called "mds" taking 214.5% of cpu.

know in hell process does? please let me know :)
