MacBook died, some advice on getting another?

sorry vague title guys, im looking advice mac has died.

of may have seen previous post charge port replacement question, didnt go (thank god seller accepted can return mac money back.).

2006 model macbook has literally died, watching video, , then...nothing silence. wont power up, wont nothing, looks logic board fried. im using netbook , linux.

advice im looking follows;

know, type of mac should if want following:

run programs garageband, , microsoft word/excel.
play games such half-life 2 (on medium or low settings if nessecary.)
watch videos.

looking @ imacs, old ones 2ghz core 2 duo processors , 128mb video ram , seem suitable considering macbook had core duo (2ghz) , gma 950 gpu 64mb video ram, , able run garageband , watch vids, no games above half-life 1 run without hang or crash. guys think should get?

do want desktop or laptop? recommend laptop more versatile , connect monitor make desktop, or use , carry around. needs can current mb refurbished , upgrade ram yourself. recommend mbp if looking has mac , listed, current white mb consider.
