i relatively new stuff, understand concept of dpi , told 200 (better yet 300) desirable printing. dont understand how file out of photoshop printable medium. question is.... why people use pdfs? have volunteer designer doing post cards concert series, , have them printed professionally. have been noticing our postcards tend to... kind of crap. passable, or wouldnt sending them out, spent bit of time trying figure out why. noticed pdfs (these 4x6'' postcards, btw) 441x291 resolution. 72dpi, right? well... no wonder. opened 1 of photoshop files these postcards had lying around last year , checked dpi, 300. tried saving pdf without compression, compression, etc.... , every single time resolution same. tried saving tiff. , there was. exact same size (8.8mb) pdf without compression, except resolution 1838x1238. 300 dpi (there fudge room on borders of post card, hence pixels). question is..... why ever use pdf? tiff not acceptable printing?...

i'm developer has lot of different user-ids on (snow leopard 10.6.7) machine. one of user-ids, although "fast user switching" drop-down menu appears normal, not possible switch other user. pull down menu, , looks right (proper checkboxes , on), , make choice , ... nothing happens. (however, can switch "login window..." selection, , "account preferences," does work. there, switch whomever want to.) other users on machine, "fast user switching" drop-down works normally. hi, i'm new macrumors forums, forgive me if make mistakes! here problem, , annoying me. home network consists of 2 windows 7 pc's, 1 macbook pro running snow leopard , home server, running whs 2011. on windows, documents, pictures, music , videos libraries pointing network location (//home-server/documents, etc). works well, itunes on windows fine using //home-server/music/itunes files. on mac os x, can quite use network locations documents, music , videos, because documents accessed finder, music itunes (which fine network paths) , imovie (which works fine files on network drive). iphoto not. currently, pictures folder (//home-server/pictures), consists of further event folders contain pictures. store pictures in way: pictures < florida 2010 < picture.jpg know, how make iphoto point these photos , not copy them local location. way, if make change in iphoto, replace old file in network location, new one. want keep current folder structu...
