i bought new mbp few weeks ago. upgraded lion last week. bought samsung le40d580 hdtv last week. bought mini displayport hdmi adapter off ebay, , hdmi cable amazon. i've tried connecting mbp tv, , doesn't seem recognise it. if connect tv whilst tv off (in standby mode), mbp screen flashes blue second , recognise tv (there samsung window in system preferences > displays). however, when turn tv on, screen on mbp flashes blue second again, , samsung window disappears display preferences , tv not recognised on mbp anymore. in addition, mbp not recognised being connected tv, , screen says no device connected (i've made sure i've selected correct source input channel on tv - hdmi 1/2/3/4 etc). have never tried whilst sl installed on mbp can't whether it's problem lion. have no idea , bought tv predominantly connect mbp it. it's frustrating , wondering if of guys had ideas/suggestions?

i in dilemma, have on order top spec imac, i7, full gfx 2tb + ssd. fed of waiting , reconsidering due requirements. need 16gb ram work (running several vms) hence not getting newer mbp. thinking perhaps should go base i5 , add sdd via thunderbolt later. base , high end 27" imacs seems make sense in terms of cost. don't play games when see youtube videos of recent ones think perhaps start! (possibly half life 2 episode 2, bit of crysis, elder scrolls 4 - sort of thing through bootcamp) don't know if 6770 512mb ram enough play games decently. not fussed if aren't @ native resolution. i7 comes hyperthreading realistically processor core can so thinking in terms of running vms quad i5 fine anyway. not hitting cpu issues on current 2.8ghz core2duo. refurb has decent gfx card, i7 plus hyperthreading not thunderbolt , right faff ssd fitted it. comfortable in doing guess invalidates applecare buy. big cost saving though. prices £1

hello -- i'm new forum, i've been mac user years. first time i've ever had issue imac in 4 years have had it. i'm not sure set off, couple of days ago, itunes acting funny , freezing along not recognizing iphone when plugged in. after restarting imac couple of times, computer started showing login screen, when set automatically login usual account. after typing in correct password, boot continue until see desktop, after couple of seconds, cycle login screen. after messing around root directory , deleting plist files , launch files, tried re-installing osx no avail. created new root account, has lead me have access of files , make imac usable, still cannot login usual account. love if there without having backup files , start scratch. i'd prefer save preferences , have access account again! please please please me! - desperate grad student.   solution
